PRP therapy: use of autologous blood
PRP treatment (Platelet Rich Plasma = platelet-rich plasma) is a form of therapy for treating diseases of the joints, ligaments, tendons or muscles. Conditions caused by wear and tear, such as osteoarthritis, can be treated as a result of injuries.
The use of thrombocyte-rich plasma is based on the knowledge that thrombocytes release growth factors during blood coagulation, which have a positive influence on the healing process.
A local increase in the concentration of the growth factors contained in the enriched platelets can accelerate wound healing and regeneration processes in defects. The PRP preparations obtained contain different amounts of platelets and growth factors. The concentration of platelets in the PRP preparation can be a multiple of the concentration in whole blood. The platelet concentration is usually three to six times higher.
